I'm currently trying to build my first computer, and I'm having problems doing it. I tryed advice from Susan from an earlier topic to no avail, thanks Susan. here is the system I'm attempting to build, AMD K6II 350, Matsonic MS6260s board, and a Banshee AGP card. I tried a Diamond Stealth64 model 2001 from my old system thinking it was not compatible with the new system, purchased the Banshee, I still get no display on the monitor, no beeps from the system currently I'm having the memory checked out I've been on the phone with the tech support for the last week, checked all jumpers twice removed all drives and still get nothing. I guess the only thing left is the CPU or mother baord. any tips or Ideas that I've not used yet "sending the system back is the next Idea"

Remove EVERYTHING(even ram), except the power supply, cpu and your speaker wire. If you don't get some kind of POST beep at power up, one or more of those parts is junk.

Thanks Madmax, that has been done, the RAM has been moved to different sockets, I told the tech person I tried starting it without the RAM Installed, the only thing he could say is the system wo'nt run without the memory. I told him It does'nt run with it in. even with it out I do'nt get any beeps.

Tell the "tech" that POST means Power On Self Test and part of what the board tests is RAM. If there is no RAM present in the system, this will cause a POST error and this, in turn, will cause a POST beep message. It doesn't matter if the system won't run with or without RAM, you're trying to isolate the problem component. It doesn't sound like this "tech" knows what he/she is doing.

Verify to make sure your speaker wire is connected properly. If it is, and you get no beeps with ALL items EXCEPT mobo, processor, and power supply disconnected, than one of those three is bad. Make sure you are running this little test w/ the processor installed. POST can not occur without the processor properly installed.

Do your PS/CPU fans come on when you turn on the power or is everything dead? If it is completely dead, and it is an atx motherboard, make sure the momentary power switch is connected to the motherboard (look in the manual for the location), just the switch on the ps won't turn it on. Also make sure the bios chip is seated well, sometimes they work themselves out of the sockets in shipping just enough not to post, just push it in as tight as you can with your fingers.

Thanks for all help from everyone here, this is more help then I've got from the Tech guy they seem to point to anything but there system. I'll go and check the Bios chip and the cpu. I'm currently having the memory checked thanks to all I'll keep you posted. oh yea. all the fans and lights work when it's powered up.

Sorry, I didn't get back to you Mike. Personal life got a bit busy after that.

My guess at this point? You need a replacement board. If you get no beeps without memory, that's not good.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS?

I have never got that far into messing around with computers, this is my first build, how do I go about reseting the bios. thanks again susan.

Hard bios reset is done with a jumper. Sometimes it's called Clear BIOS. Check your manual. Do you have another mobo or cpu? Verify that your pwr supply works w/ another mobo. I agree w/ susan, probably a bad mobo.

Mike,
I am having problems with my Matsonic motherboard (M571). I am running a Diamond Stealth 64 only because the onboard VGA would not work (no post beeps and no video) and because my VooDoo3 2000 doesn't want to work with it eigher. Seems I spent $100 on the high end gaming board for nothing. When the VooDoo board is installed, I do get 1 long and 8 short beeps (indicating display error). I think I've bought my last Matsonic mobo! Never had these problem with my Tyan! I've got a more detailed description posted under the title " $@*# Integrated Motherboard ". If you solve your problem, let me know, it may save me some headache, I will do the same for you.

hmmmmm. no posts? you might have a short if you built this puter yerself. Check to make sure all the screws that you screwed the motherboard in place with are on a soldered ring. If this is not then you got some problems and you have to fix this. If there was a screw that wasnt on a soldered ring and you fixed it all and the motherboard still doesnt turn on you might have fried it? Just a few suggestions no one has suggested.

Is it an AT, or an ATX board? If it's an AT board, check to make sure the power cables to the MB are connected to the correct plugs. The Ground wires(black) should be on the inside. The first time I built a PC from scratch, I had no post beeps or power at all, that was the cause. I didn't have a motherboard manual.lol. If you have an ATX board, this doesn't apply, so ignore it. =)

The system I bought is a tower, mobo and chip all came pre-assembled, the board is a AT I've checked the power supply that is hooked up right. Today I'm going to check the CPU. The memory chip tested out dead so I've got another on the way. while I'm messing with the CPU, the BIOS is going to get messed with also. Thanks to to everyone again.
