We get flooded with emails from our readers every day. While we try to answer most of the questions, suggestions and criticisms, there just aren't enough hours in a day to reply to every one. But believe it or not, we do read every email, and take every comment seriously. The importance we place on this practice made it impossible for us to ignore the increasing number of readers complaining about an apparently substantial shortage of higher-end graphic cards in the US market.

I don't think any two companies have ever competed as strongly as ATI and Nvidia.
They really are working so hard to outdo the other. Almost 1/2 way through the product life cycle (which is too short in itself) and most consumers still haven't managed to get their hands on the cards, which are far too expensive anyway.
Its good to see the industry moving at such a frantic pace, as long as the consumers can keep up and not be left behind.
Both ATI and Nvidia have made great progress, now its time to slow down, reduce your prices and get your cards out to the masses in good quantities.

never going to happen. its in the interest of ATI and nvidia to be sold out. they dont want excess. corporations are out for themselves not you

How is it benificial to be sold out when people want to buy your product? They would lose money on those sales that would have otherwise happened. Obviously too much stock isn't a good thing, but neither is being sold out.

most people who buy high end cards are extreme gamers. like most at this forum. and i for one would pre order one and wait. if nvidia and ati know how much they need to make from preorder list then it would be beneficial.
but you make good points. personally i would still wait for the card, cause there is nowhere else i can go!

The point I was trying to make was that no-one can keep up with the Graphics card market at the moment.
CPU's have been advancing at a small fraction of the rate of GPU's, and the majority of people are still on GF4 MX cards and equivalent.
ATi and NVidia would, in my opinion, do well to take a break and come up with some good future tactics, while still producing the cards and dropping their prices over the next few months.
Too many consumers have fallen off the bandwagon and been left about 100 miles behind.
The current high end cards will easily satisfy gamer's demands for the next couple of years...
If they don't slow down they're going to start making mistakes, fail to iron out bugs, prices are going to keep rising and waiting times will become un-bearable.
Nvidia, Ati, Chill out! :t

Kind of like Intel when they did a rush job when AMD beat them to the 1Ghz mark?

The first time in recient history that the 2 top dogs in graphics are nearly on par with eachother in performance, and neither of them can produce enought chips to make us happy. Very strange....

ATi is kinda forced to release a new chip due to the XBOX, but that doesn't mean they will market it to the PC crowd immediately, especially if they run into even a 1/3rd of the supply problems they have now. Nvidia can wait a bit. I think (or hope) that in the end both companies wait and try to recoup what they can from the current generation. Also last generation came out as a strong performer and this generation needs more CPU power behind it unless your REALLY high up there with a nice OC.
