Does anyone have any suggestions on a computer that is freezing constantly, my customer has a dell p166 32mb ram win95a.
I have replaced the video card and loaded the correct drivers for it. She let it run with the curves and colors screen saver and it locked up after 45 min. I got her to change the sceen saver to Flying through space and told her to let me know how long it ran until if froze up again, she said it lasted about 6 hrs this time before it froze up, what is the next thing to try, maybe try some new memory?
I know it might come down to reloading the computer but I would like to avoid that if possible. She has called dell and other computer companies and they can't fiqure out what the problem is, any suggestions?

*she has after dark loaded
*also norton taskmanager
*she had norton utilities but I uninstalled it.

Thanks

It sounds like a heat problem. The flying through space is less graphics reduring therefore less heat produced.

Does the computer have slow response time when getting out of the screen saver?
If yes then its not heat its a piece of software thats running along side the screen saver. Could be the Norton stuff or that after dark(I don't know what this is).

Also everthing that socalgal said, you may want to try downloading regclean to clean the registry though, regedit can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Uninstalling NU is a good idea. Consider further doing a search in regedit for Norton Utilities and removing every software entry in there. NU can be tenacious.

Have the OS and applications been kept up to date with patches, drivers for hardware?

How much space is left on the hard drive?

Are any error messages popping up?

When was last time ScanDisk/Defrag run?

Just a couple things to consider..
