I can't friggin Guillemot Xentor 32 TNT2U to work!

OK this is the problem. I am running in 1280x1024 @ 32 bit color desktop. I try to run Recoil at anywhere from 640x480 - 1024x768 and it always gives me these weird graphical glitches about 10 seconds into the game, and soon after locks up my whole computer. The same for Half Life 1.0.1.0. 3DMark 99 MAX also gives me this problem. I tried running my desktop at 1024x768 @ 16 bit color, but the same happened. These are just some of the things I try to run, but every single game that runs on my TNT2 does this same thing! First graphical glitches (like white lines all over the place) then a total system lockup.

I've tried the Guillemot 1.33 drivers and the nVidia Detonator 1.88 reference drivers.
Is there something I don't know?

OH Boy. Well, there are known problems with the Xentor, at least the first release. Apparently I pulled one of those from the shelves.

I had illegal Explorer.exe errors and sys crashes. I loaded the reference nVidia drivers and the COMCTL32.dll "fix" from Guillemot site, to no avail. I ended up reformatting my hard drive.

If I were you, I would get that card outta there and remove all the drivers from the system and registry entries. But then, others have run the reference drivers and the "fix" and it works fine for them.

There's a thread on it here - scroll down a bit. www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/000594.html (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/000594.html)

Also, check out the review here: www.hardwarecentral.com/hardwarecentral/reviews/816/6/ (http://www.hardwarecentral.com/hardwarecentral/reviews/816/6/) There are other reviews that mention the driver problem also.

What is your mobo? Apparently it gives a BIOS update for Asus P5A, Gigabyte 686LX3 and Abit LH6 motherboards. This page addresses other problems also: www.guillemot.com/northamerica/index.html (http://www.guillemot.com/northamerica/index.html)

I am not suggesting you try any of these, as it didn't work for me. But if you decide you want to try, that would be the place.

It's really a shame, because I have a feeling that it would be/is a really good card. It's not that expensive and has great clock/mem. freq. speed. It didn't work out that way for me though.

I now have the Diamond V770 32mg TNT2 Ultra and very happy with it.

Good Luck!

~~EDIT: just read jokostel. I would try that first. You may have a good, later release, and my reply may not apply.
