As you have one of the newer maxtor drives it might be more stable than mine at the higher buss speeds.....I would ask have you got a good backup of your system? and if you run in to problems restore your system at the default speed and then reclock. You da man! Mntsnow LJE2 06-28-1999, 10:45 AM Not from my experience, I have owned 2 Maxtor Diamond Max hard drives, and my brother has had 4, in different sizes, every one of these was able to handle a 75 MHz FSB, with no problems, higher than that I can't say. gr8vfr 06-29-1999, 07:53 PM 412 mhz is nothing for a 366a.i have a quamtum that will only handle upto 75mhz bus.it locks and looses data at 83mhz.in other systems the same cpu runs perfect at 458mhz. (Medieval) 06-29-1999, 08:32 PM I realize it can easily do 458.. however, I do not want to risk the data loss... as I have quite a few perishable files on my computer (downloaded stuff). On a separate paritition though. Odd, my 1 gig Fugitsu has no problem running with the 75 mhz bus speed... I set them both down to PIO mode 3 (it and the 6.8 gig DIAMONDmax.) You think I should try the 83 mhz? I can't seem to get a post with 100mhz@550 maybe if I upped the voltage.. nimrod 07-01-1999, 06:33 PM ive got three maxtor drives the oldest is a 4.3 about eighteen months old, all handle 100 mhz fsb no problem and ones running at 112 mhz.i find maxtor superb.Even a very old seagate 1.2 gives no problems at 100, ive not tried higher on that system.should there be a problem??? gr8vfr 07-01-1999, 07:13 PM can you back up the files?I say overclock it and see what it will do..i use a western digital 310200 10.2 gb at 458 its fine it doesn't clock higher.myother puter at 413 runs fine but when i goto 83mhz the quantum looses data(usually windows 98 stuff)the 98 boot disk has always saved it(brought it back to life),good luck, keep us posted./my 458mhz is core voltage 2.05 the 413 mhz is 2.0 Dominus 07-01-1999, 11:00 PM I've had 4 Maxtor Drives: 2*2.1GB, a 4.2GB and a 8.4 GB, and none of them has gone beyond 33.3 Mhz without bad sectors or other miscelanious errors. Had to low-level format the 8.4 GB after trying the 112 mhz FSB (37 mhz PCI bus) But most of the drives were older models and were of the Diamond Max variety, and might therefore have problems with high PCI bus frequencies. The newer Maxtor's are much better with more exotic PCI bus frequencies, or so I here. btw, Happpy Canada Day! 133 Years! (Medieval) 07-01-1999, 11:06 PM That's odd.. I have a 6.8 gig DiamondMAX and it has no quarrels running @ 75mhz bus speed (37.5mhz) Then again it's on PO3 Maybe it's the motherboard you run it on? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif SysOpt.com
