does anyone know how I can automatically get my e-mail in outlook 97 without going to tools (check for new mail)?

which information service are u using?

internet email service or exchange server service?

This is a long shot but I think if you look under Tools-Options. There is a check box in there somewhere to checkbox for mail every xx minutes. Take a look and let me know. I remember seeing the checkbox.

Or navigate to Tools | Options | Interent Mail

Check for new mail every (X) minutes

and navigate to Tools | Options | Preferences | Email Options | Message Handling:

Place a check mark in - Display a notification message when new mail arrives

or

Click on Advanced Email options | When new items arrive:

Place a check mark in - Play a sound

If you go into Control Panel | Sounds you can apply a sound a little more cooler than the ding to "New Message Notification"

thanx to all that replied.....apparently there is only one way to retreive email in O.L. 97, tools...check for new mail.
