Just installed a ScanMaker X6EL on PC with NT4. The first problem I came upon was that the SCSI card (Adaptec 2902) that came with the scanner is that it conflicts with an existing SCSI card already installed on the PC. So I decided to hook up the scanner in the existing SCSI chain. All goes well for the moment, I proceed to install the Microtek scanwizard which interfaces with this scanner. But when I try to acquire from any application PSP5 or MS Photo Editor or WORD an error pops on screen stating that "an error occurred trying to open the data source".

When I run "Scanner Test", a small utility from Microtek to check the SCSI/Scanner connection, it sees the scanner and the SCSI card and I'm able to make scan test which result in activity in the scanner and the resulting image on the scanner test window.

Would like to know of experiences with scanners under NT4. By the way my SCSI card is a WD7296a (Western Digital).

Just fixed the problem! My ASPI drivers we're messed up. Also there was problem with the CTL3D32.DLL file.

So if anyone else has a similar problem:

1. Download the newest drivers from Microtek's WEB site. The ones that come with the CD are old (v2.43 vs. v2.54 on WEB).

2. Make sure you have correct ASPI drivers. Download ASPICHK.EXE from Adaptec.com and it will help you determine if properly configured.

3. Lastly apply the three dogmas of Windows computing;

I. Plug & Play
II Plug & Pray
III Plug & Pay!
