6800 GT or BFG's 6800 OC

just wondering is there a big diffrence in both these cards, ill be getting either one of the two this week, I know I posted a while back on BFG,s but what Id like to know is the diffrence with the GT the large against the OC from BFG? and worth the extra 70 bucks.

the GT core has 6 vertex shaders and 16 pixel pipelines.

The 6800NU core has 5 vertex shaders and 12 pixel pipelines.

The GT has GDDR3 ram at 1000mhz (500x2). The NU has GDDR ram at 700mhz (350x2).

Basically, a GT is an underclocked ultra. There are ways to unlock the extra vertex shader and pipelines on a NU through rivatuner, but it's not a guarantee. Even if you locked it all, the ram would still hold you back.

I would pay the $70, but it's up to you.

ok so ill be getting my new GT this week wahoo, I am excited I tell you :) just one more thing what Brand do you recomend? ASUS Gainward etc etc.

BFGs are solid and have a good warranty. Make sure to get the revision 2 with the dual fan heatsink. Gainward golden samples are awesome too. Leadtek has a mean heatsink.

This is based solely on my current experience with the BFG 6800 OC that I got last friday.

Go with the BFG. if the GT is proportionatly (not sure of the spelling) better than my 6800 OC that card will rock.

My last pass with 3dmark03 I got 9660
OK, my card is modded and OCd but with a little tweaking that GT should do better that 9660. Of course the real test is in games and I can tell you I have no complaints. haven't tried FarCry with everything on high or ultra high yet but a lot of the settings are already on high and it works very well.

But like I said, thats based on my very good experience with my card.

Do you have a Best Buy close to you ?
I got mine there, and they had the GT for less than the ones Newegg is out of. Thats wierd. That may be why they are saying NO.

As far as online places, I wouldn't know for sure what to suggest other than Newegg. You can see if a online store has a good rating at http://www.resellerratings.com/

I got the XFX GeForce 6800 GT 256 MB with the bundle, it got a nice Review on the one mid posted, man im lookiing forward to play Farcry with it :)

Far Cry is sweet on a GT. make sure to turn up the effects. The water and grass and all that jazz. :D

I got it today, Im happy to bits, i didnt think it would get here till monday but fedex droped it of today, I got Doom III with it and Threat X2 Cammandos 3 and MotoGP 2, So i have a spare Doom III but thats going to a buddy of mine, no need for two, Im looking forward to getting home and seeing what this baby can do. Ill have to remove my 9800Pro's drivers, whats a good driver remove?

you should just sell the extra dIII. dang. I got my GT before all the DIII freebie stuff. heck, I didn't even get a driver CD! :p

To be honest the frist game ill play with the GT is Farcry as i did have alot of problems with that game on my 9800. I may have to reinstall doom III because I have it tweaked for ATI cards, so Ill want to just try the game normal just to see the diffrence. How high can you set D3 with this card?

it defaults to high, but I've seen guys run at the ultra setting.

I just played D3 for the frist time with my GT, and I honestly didnt think I would see a huge diffrence, but wow, it looks and runs fantastic, you can see the hair on there head like small strands of thread its way good, you can see the Vains in there neck and under there skin when its up close. I ran it on High with AA at 4 and V sync on and I still got a good FPS, im like a kid in a candy store :)
