When I open Internet Explorer, Search Companion keeps poping up and taking up space on the left side of the screen. Does anybody know how to disable this so it doesn't just show up?

It is like clicking search in the standard buttons above the addrss bar. The only thing is that it comes up automatically and is called Search Companion. You can get rid of it by clicking the search button above the address bar but it always seems to be there unless you manually get rid of it. I don't think that it's adware because there are no ads The Lodge 10-08-2004, 09:22 PM Originally posted by The Lodge Scan for spyware. http://sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161595 I didn't want to have to do that. Scan and let us know the outcome. munson1947 10-09-2004, 08:01 AM I ran ad-aware scan and removed data mining cookies as well as 2 registry enties but his was to no avail. The Search Companion still pops up on the side of my internet explorer screen. I then have to either click on the X at the top right of the sidebar to get rid of it or click on the search button above the address bar to get rid of it. I'm sure it's a microsoft thing because it even has the little dog. The Lodge 10-09-2004, 08:21 AM I’m looking right now. You think I can get a screen shot of this? Hit the Prnt Scr button next to f12. Open paint and click edit>paste, file>save as. Edit: Figured it out, give me a second. The Lodge 10-09-2004, 08:33 AM Click on change preferences, change internet search behavior, check with classic internet search>ok. Now close the search bar and close ie. When you open it back up, it shouldn’t be there. If it is, close it again then ie. munson1947 10-09-2004, 08:39 PM Thanks!!! The Lodge 10-09-2004, 11:04 PM No prob. Glad to hear that annoying search companion is gone. When you first mentioned it, I was positive it was ad\spyware. I know there is one called search bar or something along those lines. As soon as I did a search for search companion, everything came up Microsoft. We both learned something new. :D SysOpt.com
