I recently downloaded IE 5 and now I want to uninstall it, but it is not located in the add/remove programs. The browser will only load with a blank page with all the tool bars ,etc, but no address will appear. When I try to set up a connection, an error message comes up stating, "Cannot get configuration info about computer because of the following error: error 12009 occurred. What is that?!
Another error (cannot remember what I was doing when this came up): Error loading IEDKCS32.DLL a device attached to the system is not functioning. I am also getting other error messsages: SSCE5132.DLL not found. When I click IE properties get this message: Invalid page fault @wininet.dll@D137:6300EF04. When I click security tab in the IE 5 properties button, I get this error message: INETCPL.CPL@01370174654. Do I just need to format my hard drive to get his all taken care of? Can you help me???????? Thank you.

There have been an amazing number of posts about IE5 problems. I use Netscape and have a few small difficulties. My ISP ~ Earthlink ~ is very good about helping me.

I suggest you call your ISP and MS about what you are encountering.

I had IE5 and didn't like it. I went back to IE4.

In your case, it sounds like you'll need to install IE5 on top of what you already have (because it's broken), then uninstall it in the add/remove programs section. That should work.

to remove ie5 from your comp, you need to go to the microft update site. you will be able to see what options are in your comp after you go to the product update area. then scroll down and select remove that is listed beside ie5

You don't need to log on anywhere or anything magical. Just go to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and select ie5setup.exe and run it. One of the first options available is to uninstall.

You may be intent on removing IE5, but as a suggestion, I remember reading somewhere, that these problems aren't uncommon. Have you tried downloading it again from Microsoft? This has been known to fix it. Don't uninstall it, just download it on top of itself.
