As you may or may not have heard, Sierra has stopped development on several new titles and fired 105 of their game developers. The biggest title dropped was Babylon 5. This quote was taken from the B5 website, www.firstones.com and PC Gamers site www.pcgamer.com
The job cuts and canning of certain titles has caused concern amongst gamers and the industry alike. Discarded games include Babylon 5 and Middle-earth both of which have provoked outraged online response. Other titles such as Pro Pilot Paradise have sank with barely a whisper of mourning. Of more importance is the loss of over a hundred jobs which has fuelled the vitriol which the industry has poured on Sierra.
Some of the harshest comment came from IGNPC. In response to Sierra's claim that the trashed titles did not meet its success criteria the site writes: "We're not sure what their criteria is, but if strapping yourself to a longhorn falls within it, and a 3D space combat game based on one of the biggest television licenses available does not, we have serious doubts about whether or not it will stand the test of time."
Babylon 5's lead programmer Dan Foy has also posted a message. On the title's fansite at www.firstones.com, he writes; "Well, I must say that this has been one long, difficult day for all of us. I wish I knew how to express how much of a help this outpouring of support has been to me. I can hardly imagine how hard this would have been without it. Thank you, everyone. Dan."
You can visit www.firstones.com and take a look at their message board and news boards to see what can be done to save these games, especially B5!
(again from the B5 site)
One creative poster put a curse on Sierra executives, with lines like "May G'Kar seduce your wifes [sic] and run away with them and your children, and may Ivanova seduce your husbands and run away with them and your children."
