My sound card is not working correctly, after a reformat and windows reinstall it plays the first .1 or .2 seconds of sound, and you cant hear the rest. I have reinstalled the drivers quite a few times to no avail, and I thiink the hardware decided to go kaput on me. Has anyone ever had a similar problem?

I'm definately not an "exepert" by any means (like most the people here seem to be) but since noone else has tried to answer your question, I'll tell you how I got mine to work. My sound card was doing the same thing as yours. I simply went to the system properties (an easy shortcut for this is to hold down your windows key and press the pause/break button-on the top right of your keyboard) then go to your device manager tab. You'll probably see "Sound and Video game controlers" near the bottom. Double click on that group and highlight the item that says something about "16 bit audio". It'll be the one that DOESN'T have anything about midi, modems, game ports, or probably dos, in the description. Once you've highlighted that item, click on "properties" and then click on the "resources" tab. Uncheck the "use automatic settings" box and then try some other basic settings provided. The one that got mine to working said that it was conflicting with something else, but when I restarted my computer, it didn't conflict anymore. I dunno. You can try it though. Better than listening to 1-2 secs. of music. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
