Has anyone had any problems getting either of these boards to use their gameport? The device is detected and installed just fine, but I've tried to use a Thrustmaster Rage3D gamepad, but both windows and the setup software say that the device is not connected. Trying the same controler with my main system (using a Ensoniq PCI sound card) it works as it should. Any Ideas?

Have you tried to manually install the gamepad through the joystick controller in the control panel.
My PC commander didn't come with software so I made my own profile in the control panel's joystick settings.
try this:
1.) click the joystick icon in the control panel.
2.) click add
3.) click add other.
4.) insert gamepad software and click have disk or if its a USB version win98 has its own drivers use those first then update with the ones that came with it.
5.) don't forget to test and configure the gamepad or it won't work.
I hope this helps.

The game ports on the sounpro cards ae pretty restricted. I've been told to try installing all the naff free software that comes with it, and I think in their equivalent of the 'audio rack' there is an option to enable MIDI commands down the joystick port. Try that and see if it works, I have never tried as I am not a fan of those boards and like to steer clear of them.
Cheers,
Steve
My M717 has a gameport that was a pain to get operational as well. I had to instal the drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard, not the standard W98 (an assumption) ones. Windows complained a bit, when it was happy when I was done. Worth a shot, eh? Good luck.

Go to the FAQ section of the PC Chips site. It tells you how to change the midi port for use with gamepad or joystick. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks all for your advice. I'm trying Mr. Computer's idea right now. As soon as the drivers have downloaded, I'm sure that will take care of the problem. I'll post the results when I'm done.
Thanks again!

Hmmm. No dice on the M598. Haven't been able to try the M747 yet. Another question? Where the heck to you change the MIDI setting in the "Sound Rack"?
