Ok, heres the problem. This motherboard has on board video (no problem there) and on board sound, a CMI8330 SoundPro. It worked for a while but a couple of day ago every time the PC boots, when entering Windows98 the system reports a "MSGSRV32.DLL caused a fatal error in module CM8330.DRV.

I did my homework on this and found that theres a couple of issues concerning this sound chip with Windows98. Proceeded to get the latest drivers from PCCHIPS and CMEDIA. The first is the MB maker and the second is the CMI8330 chip maker. Read the release notes and FAQ's from both. It seemed at first that it would be simple because the problem I was having was documented.

But after removing the defacto drivers and installing the latest driver, I found myself in square one. The problem persists.

Maybe I missed something or maybe theres a specific item I need to recheck in the BIOS or something.

Well any ideas welcomed. Specially if you have this same MB configuration.

I have the same on board sound card. I had that problem. But deleted all sound stuff from control panel then system and reinstalled new drivers from
http://www.cmedia.com.tw/e_snd_drv.htm#released-drivers
and everything worked fine. What processor are you running

mbeaton,

I did just that and tried also removed all system devices and re-installed Windows98. But the problem persist. If I remove the all other cards (tv tuner and modem) and install the drivers it works on my account. But when I log off and log into my wife's account it freezes again. At one ocassion I managed to install the drivers, install the other cards and booted up with no problems. But as soon I log into a different account it freezes. I created a new account and it froze again. But on my account it worked. Wierd stuff!

As to disabling the on board sound and adding a sound card. I did consider it but the MB is still under warranty and I asked for a replacement. I told them to send a different brand MB (smart move or what?).

Thanks for your help!
