I asked in an earlier post about recommendations for a 16x DVD writer, i was hoping to buy the tDK but that just isn't out yet in the UK so i took the majority advice and have gone for the NEC ND3500.

First question can you actually buy 16x disks yet, certainly e-buyer don't seem to have any.
And my main question if i do buy a spindle of dvd r's do i go for - or + i really don't know much about the difference although i understand some might not play on your dvd player in your sitting room.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

No, I don’t think you can buy 16x discs yet. My understanding is the dvd- format is more compatible with standalone dvd players. Some burners don’t burn as fast to the – format opposed to the + one.

Well you paid more for something that you cannot use. The NEC 2510A would have been ideal. I do not understand this speed issue.

Anyway, an excellent site is at the following link.

In addition, did you mention your final purchase at your original post?

Ive burned a lot of 4x rated media at 8x. Its possible you can find some 8x to burn at 16x, but you would have to look around to see if anyone has had success. It mostly depends on the quality of your burner and media.
