I am planning to upgrade an older pc.
my current specs on the pc i'm using is:
8rda+ ver1.1
xp-2500 barton (oc'ed to 2.2)
2x512 pc-3200 (infineon)
"deathestar" 36gig hd
9600pro
This system is rock solid, and performs very well, have had it up and running for about 1 year now.
The system i want to build i would like be more up to date than what i have now, and hope to perform better with the same stability.
1: The primary use would be for gaming and apps.
2: I do like to oc, so the mobo would have to be able to oc
Any Sugestions Would Be Great
THanks

If you want something that's a decent upgrade from that system, you're looking at a 64-bit based rig. What kind of budget have you got?

agreed, if you want an upgrade, 64 bit is the way to go, depending on how much money you are going to want to spend..

Budget is kinda open right now as each componet will be purchased seperately.
But i do want to stay with AMD since i have had nothing but great performance and reliabilty with AMD.
Just want the best bang for my $$$.
To keep it real though approx. 700$ for the core items:mobo, cpu, and mem.
That is the money i have saved so far for this system.

MSI k8n Neo2 Platinum (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-468&depa=0) for $139 + $5ship. 939pin
Athlon 64 3500+ Retail (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=19-103-463&DEPA=0) for $341, free shipping. 939 pin
Mushkin 512mb PC3500 Black Hi-perf. Level 2 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-296&depa=0) for $135, free shipping. You can get one now, and then get another one in the future. Newegg is currently out right of these right now.
Total $620. And you won't have to build a new system for at least a year. The 939 pins are replacing the 754 pins.

Thanks for the info. I like the msi boards, but are they oc able and is there gonna be a noticable diff. between the systems
My brother has an msi board and seems to be very reliable, i put his system together for him, but i didnt look to see what all adjustments in the bios "he was watching everything i was doing and didnt want him to get in there and mess with the settings" so i didnt look around much.
edit: what do u guys think of the Epox board here's the link

Would have been great to see the msi board in there against the asus, and abit.

Yes, that MSI board's based on the nForce 3 250Gb chipset, so overclocking options (including the CoreCell feature) won't be a problem. Check out this review for more info:

MSI make solid boards, but so do Epox. It'll probably come down to features (although they look fairly similar), or brand loyalty - if you have any :)

Thanks for the link. I like the layout of the msi board, and the reviews that i have been reading. My loyalty is with epox, since i have had 3 of their boards. Epox has always given me the reliability and performance that i would expect from a quality board.
So decisions, decisions
Thanks for all the help, as always from sysopt.:t :t :t

I used to rely on Epox. Not anymore. Since I've had problems with the 8rda3+, 1rst one had a couple of problems, then RMA'd the board. They sent me a remanufactured board with the same problems, just a tad worse though.

Sorry to here that Imperion, but did they finally fix the problem.
Another question: I have heard that the n-force 4 boards are do out around X-mas, are they gonna be worth waiting for, or will the release drop the price of the current boards out especially the 939's

im going for that MSI one in the next rig me and my mate are making and i think yoshi has that mobo and he has the best gaming rig on sysopt. so i would go with the msi one. what about a video card. or have i just skimmed the page so quickly i missed the video card bit.
