Been running a wireless network for about 1 1/2 years and lately my wifes PC either doesn't connect or has a hard time keeping the connection. When she turns it on she gets the message that wireless networks are available and the list. She picks ours and connects manually. Kind of strange because where it says to connect to networks and in what order I only have ours listed. The available networks shows from 4-6. Anyway, while she is on line the connection will drop, she gets the networks available message and she has to manually connect to our network again. This happens maybe every 5 minutes.
There was a problem with her wireless card and the antenna connector, so I bought a USB adapter but she still has the same issue. Funny thing is the PC is low, router on top my PC hutch and now the USB unit is high & close (maybe 10 feet & through a wall) so I figured she'd have a better connection. It's all Linksys G equipment so I felt it would get along fine. All PCs are running Win XP. On the router I replaced one antenna with a slightly longer one that gives more power. On the other one I have a Hawking directional (14 db Ibelieve) antenna so that the signal will get to the back of the house & the den downstairs for working with my laptop, which never has this problem. Before my daughter moved out she never had this problem with her PC either.
One other thought. I get my Internet from the guy next door, he's reselling Covad. I have a small Motorola antenna under my eave that brings it in to the router. When I look at the names of the networks I see one that is the name of his business. Any possibility that can be causing some kind of problem?
Looking for any ideas of what would be causing this & how to correct it.
Thanks
