Bleeding Edge 06-22-1999, 08:14 PM "A buffer is a device used on EDO or Fast Page Mode modules. A register is used on SDRAM modules." They both do the same thing. "Registers and buffers 're-drive' or 'amplify' signals as they enter the memory module." So, on an unbuffered sdram dimms the signals aren't "amplified", where as, the registered modules are. Registered CL2 ECC sdram modules are great for highend workstations or servers. If your comfortable paying premium prices, get them. -edit- Read stuff over here for starters. www.kingston.com/tech/faq/SDRAM.htm (http://www.kingston.com/tech/faq/SDRAM.htm) www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/memory_guide/ (http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/memory_guide/) [This message has been edited by Bleeding Edge (edited 06-22-99).] Roy 06-22-1999, 11:17 PM More good knowledge in the SDRAM Survey at www.bxboards.com (http://www.bxboards.com) [This message has been edited by Roy (edited 06-22-99).] Bleeding Edge 06-23-1999, 12:12 AM Forgot about that link. Thanks Roy. By the way, mind asking 8 or Elf to make an appearence over at www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/000591.html (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/000591.html) I seem to be misunderstood. Am I doing something wrong there? Things may need smoothing out. Your input is much valued. [This message has been edited by Bleeding Edge (edited 06-23-99).] bmsabcd 06-24-1999, 12:24 AM Thanks!!
