Okay, long shot here any component level PC engineers browse this place?
This is a laptop mobo and setting the time in the BIOS is a no go. I can do it kind of, but the clock is updating at a fast rate (minutes as seconds). Any keystroke during this change affects the setting which I guess is because of how interrupts are synched with the clock. However, if I remove the CMOS battery, time is okay and is readily set, this leads me to believe it must be the RTC IC (I've tried new battery). I could do with pointers on how this circuit operates (I have an idea but need input). I could also do with a few chip IDs used in the PC industry as there are so many choices but mobo manufacturers must line up a few preferential suppliers. From there I can identify the correct component and figure out where to go next.
