I've heard a lot of bad things about the sp2. Should I wait it out or go ahead and get it? I'm trying to play cs;source and I heard that It works better with sp2 but I dont want to risk it if it causes more problems then it is worth..

I've put it on a home computer and haven't had any problems. I guess it all depends on how experienced with a computer you are. If you know enough yourself to run an antivirus and a firewall and know how to protect yourself and engage in smart browsing habits, then maybe you don't need it. However, if you are less experienced, then by all means give it a go. That being said, I haven't put it on my personal computer yet...

This is one of the reasons Ghost, Drive Image, or Acronis was invented. If you don't like something, you can easily restore your system to as it was!

You can find one of them for about $10-15 or so legit with some search on the internet.

I'd go ahead and install it. I too worried about it but after some careful consideration I did it. Be sure you make a backup or ghost your drive. So far, I've had absolutely no trouble at all. :t

As stated, make sure you make a backup of the machine in a pre SP2 state (or more simply, select to make a backup of old files when installing SP2, which should allow you to uninstall it later if you so wish) and give it a go, if it gives you any chew, restore to your previous windows build

I have an added point to make on the backup. Tried to install it on the wifes machine today, made a hash of it. It was stuck in a boot loop. So, using Nortons Go Back, we fixed it. Guess I'll wait til there's a fix for the fix. If you do install, make sure you have a way to save it if it goes bad:eek:

i just tried to install it as well, and just like you said, leprechaun_40, it stuck in the middle of the boot every time. i don't know if you need sp1 before you get sp2, but i went ahead and got sp1 after undoing the mess sp2 made. i don't think i will try sp2 again though, too much hastle!

You do not need SP1 to install SP2

I've installed SP2 on MANY machines and only had a problem with one. However this one machine had a LOT of other issues prior to the installation attempt and was in desprate need of a format/reinstall. Once I got that machine cleaned up, SP2 installation went just as smoothly as it did on every other box i've put it on.

I say go for it.

Be sure your access to the Internet cable (ie: Cablemodem, netcard, DSL, or Dial-up) is removed from the computer before updating to SP2. This was the only problem I had, when trying to update to SP2.
