Anyone know of software for reading a mac formated hard drive on a PC? I need to transfer files from a mac firewire drive to a pc.

Check out the links on this page:
http://www.atpm.com/network/files/mac_pc.htm

One of the programs called FireNet may have features to do what you want. Most of these programs are for networking a Mac and a PC. Firnet will let you connect you PC and Mac via firewire to transfer files.

A network may be the only way to do what you want.

rraehal: I couldn't find anything on that site for hard drives all I could find was networking stuff.

After another quick google search I came up with this software:
http://www.dataviz.com/products/macopener/

and this:
http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive5/

Check out the free trials and if you like the software, you will need to buy it.

Little late, but you could just format the disk in PC format and the Mac should be able to read it.

Doesn't that make the drive suffer a performance hit? I thought a FAT, or FAT32 drive on a mac was slower for access than when using a native mac format. Does the speed really mac a difference?

I tried formating the drive for a pc and the mac could read it but when I put files on it from the mac my pc couldnt see the files.

rraehal: The speed dosn't really matter because its a firewire dirve.
eather way, mac drive is working out for me.

Well, I should mention that I don't really notice read/write speeds like you're describing, unless it is REALLY noticable. To be honest, I don't know what format my disks have been. It's always just worked for me.

As far as the PC not seeing the files, did the disk actually appear blank, or did the files show up but not open? If it's the latter case, make sure the Mac files have correct file extensions; file extensions are not required on the Mac (although it's always good policy to use them).

BTW, what version of the Mac OS are you working with? (Apple Menu > About This...)
