Just wondering if anybody has heard anything about the new memory technology being developed by Rambus. Specifically I am wondering if my current motherboard will support it (Asus P3B-F). Thanks

Specifically I am wondering if my current motherboard will support it (Asus P3B-F). Thanks KillerBug 09-22-1999, 04:23 PM It is a much faster version of ram, as standard speeds get higher and higher, they must do something other than lower NS ratings to keep it cheap, so Intel is developing this, I guess a little like when the first 168 pin ram came out. It will not work with any exising motherboard. RobRich 09-22-1999, 06:54 PM Here's the downside to it all, while Rambus Dram can run at speeds to 800mhz, the bandwidth is small as compared to slower SDRAM. You have higher clocked memory with a smaller data bus, which leads to very small real time improvements. Keep an eye on DDR SDRAM. This ram is the standard SDRAM setup, but with double the bandwidth. A piece of 133 ddr-sdram has more bandwisth than existing Rambus modules, and costs a fraction of Rambus. Some chipsets already directly support DDR, like VIA's mvp3, and many more are soon to follow. workingboy 09-22-1999, 11:11 PM Thanks for the information. I checked out the Rambus web page, it was a little bit helpful. Also, ZDnet just published (?) an article on their websit concerning it. Once again thanks. SysOpt.com
