Three unanswered questions from an earlier post of Mine.
Want to transfer 540MB hard drive from one 486 to another that has only a 40MB drive. Anybody want to take a shot at these????

Many thanks, Akimbooooooooooo

Questions: HOW DO YOU JUST TRANSFER A HARD DRIVE FROM ONE COMPUTER TO ANOTHER, without disturbing what is already on there??

DO YOU HAVE TO AUTO DETECT IT IN SETUP??, BECAUSE SETUP CONTAINS INFO FOR THE LAST OR PREVIOUS DRIVE THAT WAS IN THERE, DOESN'T IT??

OR DO YOU JUST COPY NEW HARD DRIVE INFO INTO SPACE PROVIDED ON HARD DRIVE type in the CMOS setup???

I'm a little confused as to what you want to do, do you want to take the 540 MB drive and put it in the computer that had the 40 MB drive and try to run it with the files on the 540 MB drive, if that's what you want to do your asking for problems, you can connect it to the computer that had the 40 MB drive, and go into the BIOS on bootup and do an auto detect and it should find the new drive, the problem is, the operating system is setup to run with the hardware that was in the computer that the 540 MB drive was in previously, (drivers for sound card, video card ect.) even if you do get all the new hardware recognized and the drivers installed the operating system will probably still have a lot of remnants of the old hardware and this could cause it to become unstable, the best thing to do is install the 540 MB drive in the other computer then reformat it and then add the operating system, or before you take out the 40 MB drive reformat the 540 MB drive and copy everything onto the 540 MB drive from the 40 MB drive.
