Just upgraded my pentium II 233 MHz 66 MHz bus speed ... to a Celeron 333 Mhz but pc won't come on???
It just sits there...won't even turn on monitor?? It comes on...hard drive makes some noise..then just sits there..
Mother board is a 440LX Intel. Upgraded the bios with the most recent one but still nothing....According to the manufacturer the chip should work...Packard Bell..Pack Mate 7900 ....MB800 P.B. motherboard number.
Help...
thanks

If the manual says it works with the chip you installed perhaps you just need to reset the BIOS, with the jumper on the motherboard and reenter the correct perameters, before you do this make sure you write down all the information on the label on the hard drive in case you have to manually enter this in the BIOS if the autodetect doesn't detect your hard drive.
Double check all the jumpers that you changed when you installed the new chip.

THE ONLY THING IN THE BIOS THAT I CAN CHANGE IS THE SPEED OF THE PROCESSOR. THE MOTHERBOARD JUST HAS ONE JUMPER THAT I SET ON 2-3 TO SET SPEED OF SPEED THEN PUT BACK TO 1-2. I SET SPEED TO 333 PUT IN CELERON AND IT JUST SITS THERE...EVEN THOUGH PACKARD HELL SAID IT WOULD WORK?????

Two things; First,Reseat the processor. Sometimes, a different cpu will have to be pushed down a little harder. Second, With the other cpu,Change the first screen bios setting to "Halt on no errors",save and exit.If there is anything in the bios like -Cpu speed error control- Turn it off. Save and exit. You never know for sure with a Packard Bell! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

have tried everything. there isn't anything in the bios for halt on errors and there isn't a speed control error. Very basic bios. just your basic stuff. I have tried everything ..reseating it etc. still nothing. I am totally stumped. According to Packard hell they said it does work. ???Bad processor maybe????

1. Packard bell make the WORST computers I've ever seen, and if you have the unpleasant experiance of owning one of their motherboards, then the only advice i could give would be to buy a new one.

2. Perhaps it's a bad CPU. See if you can try it in a different computer.

3. Remove all devices from the system besides the mobo, CPU, RAM and vid card. Perhaps while inserting the CPU, you may have had to remove some cables, and may have put them back in the other way around.

Hope that helps.
