Ok, this may sound strange, but just listen, I am relativly sure it won't work, but who knows...I have been hearing a ton about "soft modems" and "hard modems", not the soft modem does not have the chip, the hard modem does, so would it at all be possible to make an old 14.4k hard modem work like a 28.8 by loading soft modem drivers and still using the chip on the modem, I do not want to buy a new modem, as I am only using this thing for 4 days, untill they fix my cable modem.

that's not overclocking, that's driver hacking, but anyway, its not likely to work.

the only hope might be if the modem has a flashrom onboard and if you could just flash to a newer 28.8 rom. most companies charge for upgrades, though, so still not worth your time.

Overclocking is running something at a higher speed than it was sold as by using any manner of hardware or software. I might just try it though, perhapse I cna totaly screw it up and load V.90 drivers, can it hurt?

Load any drivers you like. The worst that will happen is the modem will not respond. Just load old driver if this happens.
To "overclock" a hard modem, you'll have to flash the chip.
If you successfully manage to flash the chip, it will either work, or be TFU.
We're only talking about a $2 14.4 modem here anyhow. Buy a bucket of them for $10, and play!
