I started having problems with my computer one morning I started up the computer and it would just freeze when I got to the windows xp start up screen and the computer would just freeze up and both the red and green light were on. So Then I decided their most be something wrong with the operating system, so I decided to reformat so I reformated with windows xp and installed it and when it restarted it would get up to the windows xp load up screen and just freeze up again and the monitor would show no picture at all. Then sometimes it would freeze up before that and stuff So then I thought its probably something hardware related so I took some stuff out like my sound card and etc nothing but the video card and it would still do it then I tried the ram it would still freeze up, Im pretty sure its not the power supply because I tried a diffrent power supply too and my hard drive I just got like 3 months ago.

I dont know whats wrong with it so took it to the business that made my computer and they didnt fix it all they did was put a new cpu fan to my processor and securly glued it to my motherboard and plugged the fan into the pwr fan instead of the cpu fan, I bring it home and the first thing it does is freeze and stop and the cpu fan is running but I think It might be the motherboard.

check if there are blown, bulging, or leaking capacitors on the board.

test the memory:

I checked the motherboard I didnt see any blown, bulging, or leaking capacitors. I cant get that disk to run for some reason I set my bios to to start A first but it skips it for some dang reason.

Im a little confused here because on why my topic was moved because this has to do with some hardware failer nothing to do with operating systems or an application just because my topic is named Problems starting up operating systems.

I didn't move it. Name your thread with a more appropriate title next time if you don't want it moved.

why did they replace the cpu fan? did the fan die? if so, it's possible that the cpu was damaged.

No thats the thing the fan didnt die it just shut off every time the computer would freeze up. They also glued in the cpu in tight to make sure it doesnt come out. Well Im kind of really mad at them for one thing they didnt check if the cpu was broken they could of put in a new one to see if it worked.

Do you have a warranty with the system?

Like Mid said...sounds like a bad CPU.

Can you get your money back and then build your own system?

Just poked around few of my sites, be cheaper to replace it if you can find another. Im having trouble finding a Slot 1 mobo for sale retail anywhere. I hate to even mention e-bay, I cant stand the place myself.

Whats your location? Just out of curiousity in case I have one. Whats the speed of the CPU in question?

www.newegg.com great place to buy ..cheap prices and fsat shipping

www.pricewatch.com great place to search to find what your looking for. BUT beware of unscrupolius vendors. To find out if the vendor you choose to buy from is worthy go to ....

www.resellerratings.com this site is where people rate vendors. People weed out the good from the bad very quickly.

Good Luck....;)

I was looking at this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=13-157-033&DEPA=1

Seems like everyone rated it good. But I got some questions
1. What Cpu should I get with this. IT says Socket A AMD AthlonXP/Athlon/Duron Processors

2. Does this motherboard compatible with my Geforce 2 mx 200?

It says in the specs that the FSB is 333/400 so you will have to go with a later Barton core 333Mhz FSB CPU or newer. The 2500 and 2600 are pretty cheap right now and you would definately notice the differance over the PIII.

Not sure on the video card, im not big into that stuff. It says the one you are looking at has an 8x AGP slot. Seems like it would be fine but I would hold out for a more informed opinion on that. Not sure on the voltages.
