Im just looking and asking around for a nice solid pc rpg at the moment. I would prefer not a MMORPG b/c those are basically who has 24 Hrs of spare time to lvl up their character. Im leaning more toward a chrono trigger/final fantasy type of game. Please let me know what you guys think would be a good buy. ty

there aren't many "anime type" rpg games for the pc like a final fantasy or chrono trigger. Those have been mostly limited to playstation and super nintendo systems.

The closest thing I can think of is septerra core from a few years back and it was pretty boring.

Most of the big RPG guns on pc are either first person based or more of a medieval fantasy setting.

Vampire: Bloodlines is supposed to come out very soon and that should be good but not sure if its your cup of tea as an rpg. Otherwise you have to step back a few years and buy some older RPGs (which are still good) just dated visually.

thx for the thoughts, yeah i have been looking at previews of vampires and it looks very promising. If you will, what are your suggestions for the medievil type genre?

most of the fantasy type RPGs are the ones that came out a few years back. Black Isle studios made some killer ones.

Short list:
Baldur's Gate I, BG II
Planescape Torment
Icewind Dale I, IWD, II
Fallout 1, 2
Morrowind

More action oriented RPGs
Neverwinter Nights
Dungeon Seige
Deus EX 1, 2

None of these have the type of game like a final fantasy. All the games from Black Isle have a turnbased/real time mode with the space bar that you can stop during any battle. They have great storylines and great characters and to me nothing has come out to top them since.

im thinking about picking up morrowind. You think this is a good selection or just mediocre?

thx for the replies.:)

Morrowind is an excellent game and there aren't many games out there like it.

However you have to be prepared for a game that is so open ended that you may not even touch the main storyline for 50-100 hours. You also have to be prepared to be a bit frustrated, mostly in the beginning when you basically have nothing and are trying to figure out what to do. You also have to be prepared for lots of walking, the island is huge and can take patience. As the game goes along you can upgrade your speed and even fly so that helps.

When you do find your way the game is great and the openendedness is what I like in RPG's, i hate linear games. The addon packs are also worth a get, especially tribunal IMO because it has some of the coolest weapons and armor in the game.

Anachronox will prolly be the closest to what your looking for, very good game with some pretty good humour :t
You could also try and dig up the game Silver outta a bargain bin, another very fun game. :t

Morrowind is a great game, no doubt about it. Just be prepared for the depth of it. It is a completely open ended game, so much so that you really don't even have to touch the story line if you don't want. The only downside is that this can make it very easy to get distracted from that main story if you aren't careful. You also need to be prepared to put a LOT of time into this game. Its enormous.

In the end, I fully recommend the game, especially now that it can be purchased at a bargain bin price.

I personally found morrowind boring and hard to get into, but that's me. I didn't find the game to have enough insentives and depth to keep me interested, ThorLax if your anything like me Anachronox is right up your alley. :t

There are some very humorous parts in Anachronox, jus be patient in the slow starting begining, its well worth going through, I give that game total originality points, nuthin beats going on a quest for a stinky, chewy moldy sock for a brainiac to chew on :P haha :t

Got to keepa sharp eye on those game sites as makers are just cranking out stuff right now...and some are really good games....zzz

krazy...I haven't played it yet though when I do i will give you my take on it tonight....

It was late laast night and I just started playing D 3 again and then some BF online....

I love humor in games..and some games which are very intense and serious in content have been much enhanced by an additonal barb or good yuckkie now an then......;)

You know i downloaded it from the 3Dgamers site and when I opened up the file it said something was corrupted and would not run.....

Maybe I will try to get it from another site and try again...

Its funny as that night I downloaded four demos and only one was any good and two...of them had files and some zip floders compressed but nothing would open and work....strange....

Usually I don't spend alot of time trying to fiddle with something downloaded...if it does not even have the proper installsheild loader or even a basic winzip loader....

Its possible that the game since it is a bit old did not have the usual instqaller for it and just came with the files and compressed zip folders.... also,it may only run on a 98 or fat 32 system as that is when it was made....;)

I was also looking for a decent RPG, ended up grabbing Baldur's Gate 2 for £5. They just don't seem to make 'em like they used to back in the Black Isle days.

I figured I was about to play just another Icewind Dale which I thought was painfully average, yet playable, but I have to admit I am stunned at the fact that although BG2 uses the less than perfect Infinity Engine, it crams in a hell of a lot of gameplay and open ended game routes into what essentially is a fairly linear game, at heart. Quality stuff, this'll keep me occupied for ages.
