I have several AT power supplies laying around. And I would like to now if or how I can get one to work without connecting it to a motherboard.

Thanks

First you need and to know the voltages of the pin of each connector. Second you should hook up some type of load device to be able to check for current and voltage output. Last you need to keep your fingers out of the AC side of the power supply.

Unless they have very special characteristics, they're lying around. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Plug it in, turn it on. If it's not dead, it's working. EDIT ~ A small load may be required for operation/regulation. Typically 20% of rated load on +5V output. See also www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/power_from_pc.html (http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/power_from_pc.html)

(ATX supplies are a little more difficult.)

If you are using an atx supply, just short
pins 13 and 14 together (with perhaps a switch or maybe just a paper clip).
I do this to test the supply b4 I blow up
stuff !

Good luck.
