Problem with cable modem

Ok i got the cable modem about 3 month from now. It was fast at the biginning but now its slow, I get 345 ping in Counter strike(Half Life add-on) and my download are at 5.5k (slow for a cable modem). I contacted my cable company and they sended a tech. The guy change my line and told me to put cable modem on the first splitter. But ist still slow and one of my friend in the same area with the same company ad no touble he get 35 ping in counter strike. i would like to know if It would be best to get another Internet provider then cable modem or try to repair my current internet connection.

You are supposed to run a seperate cable from the main wall that comes off the poll to your modem. You are not supposed to split a connection.... Tell them to wire it correctly !!

Also tell them you want a line tech to come out and do a reverse on your lines and also check the lines!!

Keep in mind your problems could be a bad nick card so have them check that also. Usually they have laptops and can hook there laptop to it to see the speeds and see if you get a differnt one then you know its the nic..
