UDMA, AGP cards and Win 98

I recently upgraded my video card from an S3 4 meg PCI to (first) an STB Velocity 128 8 meg AGP, and (now) a Banshee 16 meg AGP, and Win 98 will not take UDMA for anything! With the S3, it took UDMA with out any problems.. The board is a SOYO 5EH, AMD K62 300, 128 SD, Maxtor 6.8 G hd.. I have all the updates from SOYO and nothing has worked for me. Any hlp is appreciated!

As it happens I have:
SOYO 5EH, AMD K62 300, 128 SD,
Banshee 16 meg AGP, - WD HD's though. Try installing the VIA PCI bridge patch ver. 1.4 first - then other VIA drivers.

Thanks folks, and I did write SOYO and they told me that Win 98 didnt need UDMA! Obviously the person that responded wasnt too sharp... I have tried the VIA drivers as well and those give me the same results. It goes through the install fine then when it reboots, it tries to update the drivers and thats where it stops, it just hangs and at about 48%.

Ummm... the tech was right!

The Win98 default drive controller is in fact UDMA and if you load another, it was designed for Win95 and things will stop working ( In my case, the DVD movie player wouldn't work as well as losing the ability to burn cd's on my 2X Mitsumi burner)

If 98s drivers are UDMA, then why did it show UDMA when I used the S3? Please dont get me wrong here, I dont dispute what you say...It sure seemed to me that the machine ran faster when it showed the UDMA in Device Mgr.

Ya know thats what I thought at first, but all kinds of weird things happened that seemed to screw everything up shortly after and the fix was a rebuild!

You guys are going to think Im nuts, (and truth be known, you are probably correct!), but, I have torn this thing apart from top to bottom 3 x in the past 2 weeks, reinstalled 98 5 x and Ive tried every combination of installing things in sequence, (I discovered that Logitech Mouseman drivers must be installed before most everything else or it locks up on install)... I have gained a WHOLE new appreciation for the term "Plug and PRAY"!
