Ok I have the following system:
Ati Radeon 9800XT
1024 corsair pc3700 mem
100GB HD
Athlon 2400+
Abit NF7-S mobo

So here is my issue: When I play the game I see little white artifacts that sometimes turn red at points in the game that specle the screen throughout game play... but in the menu everything is as it should be. I have the latest 4.9 catalyst drivers and a non-tweaked install of doom 3. The video card is not over heating and the processor is fine. Anyone know what could be wrong here???

Thanks: Richard

are you overclocking anything?

The game settings are probably set too high. What do you have the game set to run at; Ultra, high or medium? Also, do you have AA and/or AF turned on in the ATI control panel?

I had the same problem you are having on an OCed 9800 pro running at high detail 1024x768. (The game defaults to 8x AF at the high detail setting) Once I dropped my detail to medium and dropped my OC to 5% over spec, the white and red snow went away.

I think this has something to do with the whole Carmack statement "Doom3 will use parts of a graphics core that haven't been used yet" deal.:t

while this may not directly relate to the question, why do you have pc3700 memory if you dont overclock?

I just got the game and am using a FX5900 card on medium settings with 1024 X768 resolution and it plays just gorgeous with no graphic issues whatsoever....

In the read me file it states a few points of interest you might want to re-read.
One is the update of all video drivers for your card...;another is that due to how they rendered the graphics..you probably ned to just let the control panel in options set what your sytem and configuration is best...

If you have an ATI card then i would definitely make sure I have the latest drivers for it

When I played FarCry i would get white sploches here and there very occasionally in the game when it rendered foliage....

Yeah see I set the setting to ultra high (they defaulted to high) and took in game AA to 8x and in the ATI control panel I put that at 8X as well.... I was kinda wondering if that was or would cause some kind of problem. (hardware and software doing the same thing).

As for the off topic question: I use pc3700 ram because if I run it at 3200 speeds as I do... if will run cooler and likely last longer. (just becuase something can do those speeds don't mean you have to)

Set the ATI control panel to application controlled for everything (AA, AF, etc...)

Then play with the Doom3 settings until you find the level that plays best for your set up.
