My 56k USR Sportster is only connecting at 34.6k, the highest ever. And why are the last few lines saying OFF or UNKNOWN. They are both set to ON. I've tried every trick in the book to get my modem to connect faster and more reliable ( it took my 12 redials just to connect to type this message because the modem would try keep reconnecting to the ISP ). Someone.. help..

Your connect speed is the fastest speed at which the two computers can communicate. The lower number will probably be due to your phone line. I see in your message that it is set to 115000 baud and that is correct. Just because it connects at the lower speed doesn't mean you are limited to that, because it can "train up" and get faster and faster if the connection gets better.

Ok 1st the 115200 is an internal port speed. You might want to go into the modem properties and lower this to 57600. There may be several problems here such as line noise. Also how far away are you from the local telco switch and how many switches do you have to go through to get to your isp??? If you live more than 3.5 miles from the local telco switch a 56K connection will be impossible, also the same holds true if you have to go through more than one switch. Do you have the latest firmware update for you modem? You can read more at www.56k.com, I hope this can be of help to you.
