Crimson Skies issues

I'm trying to run a 1 on 1 on my home LAN in Crimson Skies. Man I love that game. Anyway, I was having immediate problems on my 98se "elcheapo" build the moment I installed Crimson Skies on it. It got so bad that I reformatted and installed Windows 2000pro instead (mainly so I can run DoomIII on it as 98se didn't work).

My P4+Radeon9800proWinXP machine works fine in C.Skies.

But my Athy3000+ +G4ti4600Win2kpro machine still crashes to desktop after only being inflight for a few minutes. I tried running in software rendering mode but it still crashed. I lowered sound acceleration to basic rendering and still crashed.

WTF is wrong with it? Does it have to do with this KM400 chipset? Is it a SBLive5.1 thing? Maybe it's an Nvidia thing? I have the latest drivers, period. Can someone bring illumination here? thx.

Okay, I may have fixed my problem.

I raised my CAS from 2.0 to 2.5 in the bios. While there I enabled PCI IDE Bus mastering (for some reason was disabled).

IMHO one of those did the trick. I also maxed out my video card eye candy (anisotropic filtering, antialiasing, quality settings, etc) but I doubt they stabilized my game.

I love that game also..and darn it I have Windows XP uisng the NTFS file system and it won't work on this....

Do you know of any way to get it to run on my system....? i think they might have a patch or update for this...don't know.

There are a few games I love that only play in 98 or fat 32 file system and since I am advised that putting a new OS in now in additon to what I have it might be amute problem right now...

I just run the crimson.exe app in Compatability Mode (win98) on my XP machine. Works just fine. :)

I do have the 1.02 patch, but no other patches exist (well, besides the OTHER patches/fixes).

Try running it in compatibility mode and see what happens.

note: it was the CAS latency. My DIMMs are different brands & ratings, and certainly the Mushkin pc3200 DIMM is bad as it will not run above pc2700 speeds.
