Hi guys, how's everybody doing?
Okay, a few days ago my system started crashing.
Chased down the problem to be those 4 "new" 160 Gig - 7200 rpm HDD
The old ones running at 5400 rpm (also 160 Gig each) runs fine, just barely warm
the "new" ones running at 7200 rpm was painfully hot for my fingers.
It was running all nice, until one of my Intake fans died, and now the airflow is slower than it used to be.
The case is rather Packet at the HDD slots level, one on top of each other.
So obvious the top 2 are the hottest one.
So i was wondering if anyone know of something Slim enough to slip between 2 HDD to cool it down
but all those HDD cooling kits takes waaaaaay too much space, no way in hell it's conna fit in a compacted 3.5 area with barely 4 mm of space between HDDs
Dammit, I knew those dang 7200 rpm drive was gonna do this sooner or later.
I can imagine just the amount of heat those SATA 10 000 rpm drives are gonna make.
Holy smokes!

Perhaps something like that would help also.

You can also always recycle some cpu fans that used to cool your old k62 processors and use them as harddrive fans. I've seen them modded into the spare plastic bevels you pop out when installing cdroms abd dvd burners.

Can you give them any space inbetween. Also throwing in some decent intakes will help.
I'd say use a cooler, but most either need a 5 1/4 or won't work in your situation if you can't space the drives out.

nope, all my 5.25" slots are used already
i can hardly make any space, because i need all those HDD
unless i can sell them, and buy a few 250 GB HDD models, but they are still too expensive compared to the 160, two 160 is cheaper than one 250, with way more space
well good news is i replaced the Dead intake, with a new one, now everything is cool again.
32 to 34 celcius across board, even during long hours of game plays.
Man.. never under estimate the difference of 1 fan can make in your overall system. :D
But those crashes has shown me a weak point in my system
HDD HEAT dissipation problem.... so i'm still trying to find a way to cool those 7200 drives for days when any of those other system fans dies out of the blue.
and the major constrain is the space available... sigh...
I've no available PCI slot either, so those fans are also out of the question.
I did check out those HDD cooler from those links, they wont fit, 4mm is too little space for anything asides some hightech water cooling bags, or some major airflow like what i'm doing already.
i guess i'll drill another hole in the acrilyc and install yet another fan to push more air to the HDDs from the front, and have all the hot air go out the back and sides.
Or i can set up some DOUBLE mounted 80mm fans in each of those current slots bringing a total to... lets see
hmm.... 2 + 2 + 2 x 2
wow! 12 Fans in 1 system, that gotta be cooooool :x
Currently I already have 7
2 back, 2 sides 2 top, 1 front
well my plan my aestetically kill the inside looks of the case, but it should be funtional
what do you guys think?
too bad a 120mm fan is too big for inside the case, and i definitely don't want to put them outside, yiuk! :p

yes i did
i know that one is 3.5
but is Thick
is about Half inch thick/thin
definitely will not fit in the 4 mm space available.
i've seen that in a local store before, is good, but it doesn't fit for me without removing some HDDs.
which... is totally out of the question.
I'm kind of considering water cooling just for the HDD :x
