HD power down mode inop.

I have an M-598 motherboard running a k6-2 /300 with a Quantum 3.8 gig fireball, for some reason there is no HD power down setting in the power management window (running win 98), and when I set the BIOS to put the HD into standy or suspend, it still does not power down. I originally had an
M-590 MB that went bad, with the same HD connected, and it would power down just fine.
Any thoughts on this?

look in your bios....there are hardcore configureations for this there to enable power saving modes/features
