I had a similar problem with my system when I installed a ECP Card and found out the DMA settings on the card matched the Floppy Drive which is channel 2. I would goto the Device manager and check the (DMA & IRQ)'s on all devices before saying the controller on the MOBO is dead. If an of them are trying to share DMA 2 then they must be changed in Device manager.

i assume you tried it again at the default clock speed? try increasing some of your memory timings in the bios (change towards more "safe" settings instead of "optimal").

my bh6 would do that at 464, but returned to normal at 450.

If you boot to DOS, can you read anything off the floppy then?

If so, it's your floppy driver in windows. Go into Control Panel/System/Devices then delete your floppy drive and reboot. On reboot, it should find the drive and reinstall the driver.

whilst agreeing with everything said, are you sure you have checked your cable connections and reseated them? you may have disturbed them when you were o/c and they have now settled giving no connection

1. Did you install any new hardware or software before this happened?

2. Did you change the floppy ribbon to one that you know works?

3. It could be your onboard floppy controller is out on your motherboard.

well that is the same thing i was thinking
about, that the on board fcc controller is
dead, the funny thing is that win98 gives
me no error message in system configaration
and findīs the floppy but not the disk in
the floppy
