DOA?

I've never had a motherboard arrive DOA.

What are some characteristics of a board that comes DOA? Because I'm pretty sure I just got one... unless there is totally something else wrong.

I turn it on, no post, no nothing. Monitor just stays black, and floppy drive stays lit, and CDROM drive just constantly blinks. No HDD or Power LEDs either.

If you have mounted it in the case...remove it.

Put the mainboard out on a book or something, put one stick of ram in it..the CPU and HSF.

Connect the power supply, put a video card in a socket...any old video card will do...connect the monitor, and turn it on by taking a small screw driver or maybe a knife blade..anything metal and small, put a short between the two pins where the case switch wires normally go..and then remove the short (the case switch is a momentary on/off type like a car horn or doorbell button).

You do not want (or need) any other cards or hardware connected...no keyboard or mouse.

Turn it on with the screwdriver etc. and see if it will POST...let us know what you get after trying these efforts.

Make sure the jumper for resetting the bios wasn't in the reset position. Hey it happens.

All the jumpers are correctly set (unforunatly)

Bovon later this afternoon I will run it out of the case on the good old telephone book and only hook a old PCI vid card up to it.

Well, we wish you good luck...there are other possibilities for the board not POSTing..like for instance..if you bought the wrong CPU and the boards BIOS does not recognize it.

Maybe the wrong type of RAM?...A bad power supply?... You never mentioned what all you had to work with, age if not new..... its difficult enough for the members here to guess at problems, and worse if they do not know what kind of parts are being used.

I know its DOA - I know nobody else knows this, and not to sound like a you know what either, but this isn’t the 1st computer I've ever built, and honestly it doesn’t even surprise me it was DOA - It's a $40.00 motherboard for someone who's on an extreme budget ;)
