I have a PII 233, It seems like every other time i try to boot up, nothing happens. The Hardrive, floppy, and cd-rom seems to be going. They sound normal, like i was booting up, but the screen stays black. I tried using a different monitor, but i got nothing.
So its not the monitor. I took the video card out and tried another but again, i got nothing. Could someone give advice? Thanks in advance..

Do you get a memory count screen? Do you have on-board video. if so then you might have to set a jumper on the mobo or turn on or off a bios setting.
When i get nothing, i get nothing. No memory count, At least i cant see it. Everything seems to sound right and everything but the screen is blank. Thanks..

A simple thing like a hd cable plugged in wrong will create this.Strip it down to a basic system with a video card only.Reseat your memory and cpu.Lemme know. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Is that an AGP card or PCI? If it's PCI, try another slot, could be a slot gone bad. If it's AGP, and you already tried another AGP card, try finding a cheapie PCI Video card and see if that works.
If you get it working, be sure to post here what you did.... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Good luck.

I used a matrox mystique in a different slot, no luck. It is a pci card. I havent made the step to agp yet. Last night i took everything out the case, the motherboard and the whole 9. Nothing seems to work. There is no onboard video, so that eliminates that. The pallet snoop is disabled. Im getting to the point where i gonna just buy a new mobo. I dunno!
Thanks for all the help!

Do u get any beeps as it's powering up?
If you do get a beep code, tell us what kind of BIOS you have.
Mr Computer has the right idea...remove everything except the video, and memory.

Similar problem: no beeps, blank screen on powering on. Checked/swapped all cards & bios battery: nothing. Installed NEW RAM, & got beeps & video, was able to go through one setting of the bios. But on reboot: Back to the no beep & blank screen. Something ate my memory.(?) What would do this?

also check the pallet snoop in your bios since alot of video chips and cards don't support this diable it. and make sure you have all bios settings and all mobo jumpers set correctly for a video card.
It just occurred to me that no video no bios.
Does you mobo have an on-board video port try this if that works check the above.

I have had two of the Amptron PM-3300v boards "eat memory".Turned out to be a shorted dimm slot. They would boot the first time.Reboot=nothing. What boards are we using? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks MR COMPUTER. I just thought crin might gain some insight from one who has shared his problem. His last message said he was buying a new mobo, so that ought to solve the problem you mentioned.
How do you determine a shorted DIMM slot? How is memory 'tested' as some have mentioned?
I'm trying to continue use of an old DX-6900 486 System Board for some wordprocessing & data needs. It has one bank of 30 pin SIMM and two 72 pin SIMM sockets. Memory in either configuration, in accordance with the User's Guide, doesn't change the results.
Maybe, since crin has gone, I need to start a new thread... ?

Thats one of those boards with the "nightmare" jumper sets.Make sure your memory is fast page. Cpu jumpers are most critical on this one.A lot of good info is still posted for that board.

On testing the memory - I cheat with a second known good board! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
