Can Outlook Express be set as the default email program. I set it under tools in Outlook Express, but it doesn't work. When I click a link for email on a web site it stalls then over 60 blank windows open. In IE the only options for default email is Outlook & Yahoo nail.

Using XP pro, Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1123, and IE 6.00.2800.1106, and hotmail for mail.

If you have at least SP1 installed, try setting it in "Set Program Access and Defaults" in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.

Under Choose a default email program I have "Use my current email program, nothing else, and it is clicked. Also noticed that after installing Yahoo messenger, I have a Yahoo mail program that I cannot delete.

You should be able to set it in OE options near the bottom of the "General" tab

"You should be able to set it in OE options near the bottom of the "General" tab"

Well, that is the first thing I tried. I just looked and it was not the default program. I changed it, clicked apply, then OK. I closed that menu, opened it again, and it once again said it was not the default.

As far as setting it in IE, I do not get OE as an option, just Outlook & Yahoo mail. I do not use Yahoo mail, but it loaded with Yahoo Messenger and it will not uninstall.

Find the MSOE50.INF file and right-click it. Select Install. You will need the XP CD. You may have to manually search the C: drive for the files.

When done, check Internet Options again.

Bill, did you maybe mean MSOE50.INF? I cannot find the file you specified. I found the this one in C:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386. I feel this has to be it, just want to verify.

Thanks

Oops. Yah - I meant the INF file. Sorry.

Thanks Bill, that did it. I tested it out from a web site - works fine.
