Hi All.
Here lately, I've been having some problems with my netscape. (My friends keep telling me to just stick with Microsoft Internet Explorer.) Well, here's my problem: Certain webpages that use Java (I'm guessing that's the root of the problem) cause an "Illegal Operation" in stack overflow. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a stack overflow problem caused by not enough space in swap file. I've specified 320MB for swap, so that should be plenty. (160MB RAM x 2 for size) Sometimes, I don't even get the error message, it just locks up. I've been all over Netscapes Netcenter, and several search engines, and can't find anything related to this. Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance-

I'm a diehard Netscape fan (if the only other choice is IE) but I too have been having problems with Netscape crashing on certain pages (I'm also using 4.6 w/Win98) this version seem much more unstable than 4.51

Version 4.61 has just been made available. Take a look at it. Maybe it will perform better for you.

Jadinolf-Where can I get 4.61? It's not on the Netscape home page. Or did I just miss it?

try adding this to the target of your short cut just after " -start_java
it stopped javascript errors on some sites and hanging problems on applets loading.

Thanks smunzli, but it is supposed to change the Icon. Now I have a bubble with a question mark in it...

Just downloaded 4.61, and restarted, that's all it took. Icon is back.

Jadinolf--I downloaded 4.61, everything's smooth for now. It also seems to load faster, but that could just be in my head.

If problem persists, you could try increasing stack pages from 2 to 4 in sys.ini file.

I was having very similar problems with Netscape 4.6 also. Lots of lockups on certain pages. I too, would prefer to run Netscape but I have to admit IE5 is more stable than the newest version of Netscape. Anyone have success with the 4.61 version??

erale--So far, so good. Of course I havn't had a lot of time since I installed it to really "break it in". But it is running stable for now.

JimS--I think I'll do that anyway when I get home tonight. I should be able to spend some time with it tonight.

Thanks guys.

I downloaded the 128 encrypted version of 4.61 last night. Don't see a difference, but then I wasn't having problems with 4.6.

Come on 5.0. Where are you?
