Clearly, if the data is being preloaded, how come they can't figure out when they will release it to the public? I get that VU may be holding them up, but I doubt that VU is spot checking these pre loads and approving them in bunches. MJCfromCT 09-10-2004, 08:53 PM Perhaps they are preloading things that they know will not change between now and the release date. Its clear from the Source beta that there are a few bugs that need to be worked out. I guess it'll get released when it gets released. :) PacNW CE 09-13-2004, 04:25 PM I am sure it will be a deal such as "Download on Steam today, or wait 2 weeks for it to get to your retailer." If this ends up being the case, watch their server crash repeatedly making a initial mockery of the Steam system. I have always felt the internet is fantastic for small passive upgrades, but sucks royally at delivering content to the masses in a timely fassion. MJCfromCT 09-13-2004, 04:38 PM I wouldn't be suprised if steam grinds to a halt when HL2 drops...especially if the scenario like you mentioned unfolds...hopefully i'll only have to download a few hundred megs of stuff though, seeing as i've already preloaded a gig or so of source engine files, etc. SysOpt.com
