SB Live Sound Delay

I have a SB Live Value sound card. This problem I am having started a couple of months ago and I cannot figure out what is causing it: In some games (those that use DirectSound) the sound effects are delayed from the on screen action by about a second.
This only happens in some games. The sound card works perfectly elsewhere. Any ideas as to what is causing the 1 or 2 second delay????

if you have a surround sound setting called 3d this may cause the problem....I think.
