I can't get my Viper 550 to work with my Matsonic Socket 7 motherboard. I install the AGP driver, and then the Viper driver, but when I reboot Windows 98 hangs with a black screen. When Windows does boot, it's in 16 colors with an error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you remove your old video card software before installing the V550?
Go into safe mode, change your video adapter to Standard VGA and then remove all video adapter software whether it's the V550 or your old card. Reboot and let WIN redetected and then reinstall the drivers. Hope this helps http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I tried some of that in safe mode, but I'm not quite sure how to remove the other video software. I did remove the other card from the Devices menu. Should I just delete the inf files for the other video cards? Thanks for the help.

Use Add/Remove Programs for removing any of the programs that came with the cards.
Then, change your video adapter in display properties/settings/advanced to Standard VGA. Reboot into Normal mode.
It is a possibility that you might have to change some settings in BIOS, but trying to elimnate all previous card information from WIN is the most important.
Oh, and just to check how your board is handling the AGP, go to Device Mgr./System Devices and look for CPU to AGP Controller. Dbl click it and see if the device is working properly.

Most likely a refresh rate problem, this is somewhat common with the TNT cards. Your video card may be trying to force a refresh rate higher than you monitor can handle. Try setting refresh rate to 70 or so if you can get into safe mode. You can also force refresh rate by editing the registry. Good luck.
