Went through some, liked/disliked/some didn't even service my area even though it braught it up.

Anyway's, i wanna look up service,
3mbps down minimum, dont care much about up.
$45-61/month

This came as a giant surprise to me since I have been working for Covad for quite some time now and was not aware of us offering a 6.0 service to our direct customers. I checked into it and confirmed we do not offer this speed right now. The fastest you can order from us is 3.0 ADSL.

If you want to know more about Covad, go to www.covad.com.

Might I also recommend you look into Lightning Bolt Technologies and Speakeasy. I am not sure you can get either one but they're both Covad partners that have excellent customer service / technical support.

Another would be Earthlink as they offer a lot of extras with their plan and are also a Covad partner.

It's not FROM Covad, but i think their partners from them and a few other people...

The thing is, i have to cancle my phone line, and get a new number from a different company if i want DSL, because nobody services to me right now.

So now i have to find a phone company in Fort Lauderdale that goes through the CO :

" FTLDFLCR "
http://www.broadbandreports.com/coinfo/clli/FTLDFLCR
^^^^That One^^^^

not aware of us offering a 6.0 service to our direct customers

Because its not a direct customer, im going through somone else,
and lightning bolt is VERY EXPENSIVE for the 6mb down. 89.99

I'd rather pay the 59.99 for 6mb down., but if you have other solutions (or could work me out a deal  )

---
Update
---

I called a company, they said I am actually 9418 ft from FTLDFLCR but...
My wire runs over 18,000Ft. And to run a New line it would be $300, and $99!!!
So basically I'm screwed every which way I can think of.

Any suggestions!!!
SYSOPT I AM BEGGING!!!
   :(

18k ft, here's what your looking at:

1536/384 not likely
768/128 very feasible
384/128 almost for sure

...or there is the worst case scenario: you have 18k ft of **** cable and bad inside wiring so you have to pay for a pro install and your connection is still intermittent.

I think your best bet is cable....

There are no good deals on broadband. If you pay less, you will get less.

The story about the cable is,

We just baught a motel, and there is a Owners Suite/Apartment.
So i can't really get Residential Cable due to the motel is running on a Commercial/Bulk account.

If i do get Cable i would have to buy "biz" rate cable internet which is like 100+ for 1.5down ATLEAST!!

Satallite is down right out of the question, i dont wanna pay 500 for Install plus 100 for slow net. It rains every day here in FL so that would mean degrading of signal.

Commercial internet, mabey, if i can find a good deal on it.

How much does New wiring go for actually? Will the tele company do it with a brand new line???

Rob R.

It really depends, and the fact that were now talking about a commercial property makes it even harder to estimate. The best thing for you to do is order DSL and see what happens. Most reputable companies give you 30 days to cancel with no early termination fees so you can "test drive" it.

If you go with a company that owns its own network (like Covad or a partner that uses Covads network) than you will need to have your POTS (plain old telephone service) with BellSouth. The thing is, you cannot have two third party leases on the same telephone line. It's all related to the goofy last mile rules that are currently in affect. I know we (Covad) are offering a product that is a dry line (no dial tone) to our customers in some areas right now as part of our VOIP roll out. I do not believe we offer this in your area yet though. You can count on the fact that it's coming very soon though.

Ok,
Some companies said i can go with a dryline, but If i do decide to put the money in for a brand new line to our place, about how much would it run?
Do i just contact bellsouth and tell them that i want to order a new line and we need new wiring? or how does that work.
I am going to cancle our old private line and get a new one.

And if i go Cable, Can i get 'biz' Cable from any company even though comcast provides the cable tv?

Rob R.

When you order the dry line DSL service, the DSL provider leases the line so you don't have to do anything. The DSL provider is BellSouths customer and you are the DSL providers customer.

Also, BellSouth is not going to string a new line to you, those lines are already there. BellSouth just hooks up the line in the central office to make it active.

so with dryline i wont be able to get a good speed, plus i have to pay like $30 extra a month :(

In a nutshell, you're lines probably go up and down streets meandering to your location and it happens to end up at 18k ft. Just find a company that you're comfortable with that has a 30 day trial period and order up some DSL. Just be happy you have a broadband choice at all. Their are still plenty of people who live in the city who's only choice is 128 or 144 at significantly more money per month (~$100+ /mo) because their local telephone company used pair gain for their area (fiber optics). Most 768/128 services are only $30 - $40/mo and that is enough speed to not be a hinderance.

I called up Bellsouth, and somehow, i got them to give me their 3.0Mbps DSL line,

The other problem was that our business telephoen company did not support us getting DSL. So we just moved to bell south.

Keep in mind there are no speed guarantees at all with ADSL, it is considered a "best effort" service. I am sure they would have been more than happy to sell you a 100mbps line if they offered it. Either way, don't get your hopes up about actually getting that speed.

I think I already explained that you can't have two leases on one telephone line. You have to love that spin the Bell is putting on their own rules.

I cancled the old line from XO Communicatoins. I have bell coming in today. Ill see what they can do abou t the DSL, i Know that with DSL you will get near max speeds.

I finally got DSL from bellsouth,
i got the 2wire dsl modem, i wish i could upgrade to the one with a 802.11G insted of the B :(

but i'm hitting 2.9mbps on the wired one and 2.75mpbs on the wireless.

Anyway you could find me a place where i can swap my modem?

Rob R.
09-24-2004, 03:29 PM
That's incredible speeds for 18k ft. I'm totally shocked that you can get speeds like that and completely curious how they managed it. 3.0 is normally limited to 13k ft.

I'll post you a screenshot of the bandwith tests when i get home. Anyway's about the modem thingy, know any upgrades from the 2wire 1700HW? I want a G-Band Router insted of the B that comes with it,

Is there an addon or something ???

Rob R.

I believe you, I am just curious how they did it.

Do you know of a list of modems that bellsouth supports?

Like i said, i want one with a built in G and not a B
