What diff and lock settings are y'all using in RBR? It appears that at default the brakes/diffs are set to 100% lock regardless of the braking pressure applied, which may explain why im getting massive understeer into nearly all corners.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

oo, didn't know that was out, whats it like?

You're probably getting massive understeer as it's more of an arcade game rather than simulation (from what I hear) - understeer is considered safe in this world rather than the throughly enjoyable over

Usually it's a 60/40 split in real cars in that 60% of power goes to rear, brakes tend to be set up wither 50/50 or front biases slightly...

Its the game us rally fans have been waiting for.

Puts Colin McRae firmly in its arcadey place, if you want realism you'll definitley like this, though you wont get the full benefit of it without a Logitech-MOMO. It's not very approachable for newcomers to the sport, but despite a few niggles rally fans will really like it.

Richards Rally School in particular, which goes into the various real world rally techniques such as power-sliding, creating over-steer, Swedish flick etc. puts Colin McRae 1's "driving school" to shame.

Well worth the money, as long as you dont expect to jump into a scoob, plant your foot to the deck and poweslide your way from start to finish.

Only complaint is a few nigglesome bugs, though SCi have confirmed a patch in the works

ah, completely the wrong way round from what I heard then. Sounds good, does it have online/is online good? What about modability? Oh, and are the specs to be believed? I can't run it if they are :( (I'm able to run Doom3 albeit jerky, Farcry wasn't a bother but the XpandRally didn't like me)

I don't trust online reviews and the official website is a nightmare!

Modability loosk alright, there have been a few minor mods already creep up over at BHMotorsports. I don't think there is online (i havent really looked though - im not an MP type). It is quite high spec apparently, but i cant imagine it being as strnuous as somethign like Doom III, my "middle o the road" system pulls it along beautifully at 1024x768x32, full detail, 2xAA/16xAF.

Graphically it's stunning particularly the secenery and has lot of little neat attention to details (wildlife popping out in front of you, spectators on the track etc.), my only real complaints are that its maybe too realistic for its own good, its still rather buggy (the driving school stages would randomly crash out for me :() and some graphics are a little poor - specifically the car models, which looked poor compared to McCrash.

One things for sure is that you'll have to "unlearn" some of those old CM techniques and tricks, a careless cut and you'll barrell it, while tweaking the handbrake hard to bring the back end around will more often than not end up with you facing whence you came and "slamming on the anchors" is out of the question, you'll either go sideways or even worse just lock and keep on goign in a straight line.

I'd reccomend a demo or try before you buy, but knowing your a real Rally fan Stefan, i think you might just like this one ;)

there doesn't appear to be a demo yet :(

Still play are carrying it for £17.99, only problem is you can't return if it's no use :(

Thanks for the review tho, defiently worth more investigation, I'm getting a new system shortly I think (although there is too much after my money at the moment - car insurance is due soon  £500 :D)

How mildly amusing. I got it even tho my system specs fall slightly short of minimum and it won't run.

Apparently, and this is where it gets interesting, the KT133a board (I'm running Asus A7V133) has bad hardware management in XP in that XP runs it as a different piece of hardware and that subsquent drivers don't work very well (explains a lot).

Now, thats interesting enough in the first instance (that the game has an inherent flaw and won't work with some PC hardware), it becomes even more interesting when you learn that it won't run properly on the xbox either. It transpires that some xBox's have sub-standard DVD & HDD drives which are causing stuttering and ill running games, RBR been one of these.

How intriguing! SCi have made a game which won't run on consoles never mind PC's. Stick that up your pipe and smoke it, does away with the whole idea of "a console never needs patches as it always works"!

Oh, and finaly when I was trawling through sites (even the German ones) it appears that there is a gross error on one of the tracks (xBox again) where you fall through the scenery. Every time, every lap, every combination of settings... You can't finish the race.

Disgraceful!

Yeah, there are a lot of people out there with bugs. The only two i've come across are the rally school constantly crashing out (which is VERY annoying as you need to complete atleast the basic school to open Championship mode) and the AA/AF "lines" issue, though that is a driver fault.

Other than that i cant say i've had any troubel yet, though im desperate for a patch so i can complete the advanced rally school without being dumped out to the desktop umpteen times.

Other than that, its getting better and better. Multiplayer is availiable with 2,3 and 4 player modes. I also have to comment on the sound, which is excellent, no longer do these WRC beasties sound like a fly in a jam jar, theyre big - gnarly and nasty. In particular i really liek the fact that when one (or more) of the doors fall off the engine noise grows louder and reverbs around the cockpit a great deal more.

Only annoying thing is that SCi wont let me do a Colin McRae and aim at spectators on the track :(

...and to think, from the people who made Carmageddon
