I am about to purchase this chip, since it will be running on the 100mhz bus will I need
the faster ram to have it work correctly? Currently have mix of EDO and pc66 in my system. My mb is an shuttle 591P.

Some slower ram will take the speed, some won't. No way to tell until you try.
Not familiar with your board, but my Soyo has jumper settings to set ram speed of either full bus or 2/3 bus speed, thus allowing the older ram in combo with faster cpu/bus. Of course performance suffers this way.

I've successfully ran EDO directly on a 100mhz bus with a MVP3 chipset before, but it rare that this will happen. Your best bet is to find a shop that will allow you to trade in your ram against some true pc100. You might be suprised at what EDO retails for, since its not made in bulk anymore. As for the pc66, most I've used will make it to 100, but after changing some bios settings. You may not be able to run it at "Turbo" but you should be able to run at "Normal" Also make sure you use a CAS latency of 3, since most pc66 will not support CAS 2 standards.
