Hello,
I just installed an FIC VA-503+ motherboard and everything works fine except the sound. I don't know whether it's the card (generic ISA sound blaster 16 clone) or the board. I don't think it's the card because I can hear music when I play CDs on my CD-ROM drive (there is a wire connected from the card to the CD-ROM drive) but I can't hear any wav, mp3s, or midi files; microsoft's media player and win amp simply freeze up. I can't even play a game because it freezes up as well. I'm assuming this is so because the sound cannot be played. It may also be Windows 98 itself, I intalled my friend's sound card and it didn't work either. Please help anyone, I just upgraded to a new mother board, processor (from 133 to 350), and lots of RAM (128mb) and I can't even enjoy it. Thanks ahead of time.

Have you got the most recent drivers for the card, or are you using MS drivers?

My opinion: You may want to invest in a new sound card, whether it's a SB Live, or AWE64.

Yes maam, I'm using the latest drivers that Windows 98 automatically updated. The card is from EES Technologies, it was upgraded from a 1996 driver to a 1998 driver. Any idea of what's wrong?

You might want to visit www.windrivers.com or www.driverzone.com and get ESS drivers. Sometimes Windows detects and installs sound drivers like this but they don't work properly.

Good luck!
