Legal DVD drive unlocking???

Is there any way to (legally) unlock a DVD drive? (ie make it region-free)
...preferably without buying anything ;)

For DVD drives try and application such as DVDIdle Pro

For household DVD players its usually just a case of hitting a right combo of keys on the remote, a quick websearch choudl tunr up what you need there.
