It may be a prob with my mother board as the first one of these I had did the same thing and when they tested it with DOOM III it played for 3 hrs with out a problem. Could it be a direct X thing ? the it does it with is UT 2K3, think Ill install RTCW and see what it does (don't have D3 yet, sigh...)

have DX9c, vid drvr is 61.76, I will probably try one of the 50 series again. OS is XP pro w/SP2 and it's a leadtek vid card.

I just setup a dual display so I could see temps during the game and it gets into the 50s. as high as 55 C, it locks wether it's OCd or not (right now it's not) It has the stock HSF and no heatsinks on the ram. If thats the whole problem, I'll not be happy. I'm gonna lap the GPU sink and use AS 5 but i'm not sure when I can get heatsinks for the ram.

later that day ... :D

I tried RTCW, temps got to the high 50s but no lockups, Hmmm.
must be a driver and/or DX thing. I installed 9b just to see if it had something to do with 9c, ( after fresh install of XP) but when I got SP2 it installed 9c. so far I'm not liking this new windows update. anyway if ya got any ideas let me know. I'm gonna roll back to the 56.72 drivers and try UT again.

K, just in case anyone cares.

reverting back to the 56.72 driver did not work.
Did some looking elswhere out there and saw that my problem did not seem to be just mine and seemed to be assosciated with DX9c and mostly if not all were Nvidia cards. wish I knew someone with a 9800 pro I could borrow. Oh well.

I uninstalled SP2 and went back to SP1 (after uninstalling vid drivers again) this got me back to DX9b. re-installed the 56.72s and tried UT made it through Face3 with no probs but it froze when I tried to exit the game. I let it sit and after a while the system rebooted. when it restarted it did the disk check then when it got in to windows I got 2 messages. one was that the driver for the video card had a problem (couldn't redraw the screen) and the other was about the serious problem we just recovered from. I clicked don't send on both.

I'm not sure wether to go back a version or so, or try 61.76 again.

All righty then, none of the above worked either. I tried reinstalling DX9b, no joy there. I was gettin desperate, I could feel their eyes peircing into my soul, I had to do something, anything to keep them from getting to me ... ah hem, hang on, oh yeah, the video card.

Any way, I did an entire reload of XP went for SP1 and ignored SP2. Then I installed 9b since that's what came with the card. Installed the 61.76s and went for it. so far so good, played Anubis then Face3, no problems. can I say eureka yet ? I don't think so Fred, you new the job was dangerous when you took it.

Gonna do some more testing, then maybe tomorrow I try OCing this puppy again.

What kind of case cooling do u have? good case cooling can help keep temp down. I have a FX 5900 flashed to a 5950 an at idle it runs at 38*C an CPU temp run at idle 38*/39*C, room temp at 70*F. I have 2 intake fans, 2 exhast fans at same cfm.
