To all those who have taken this test, are all the questions one answer or do some have multiple answers? I am taking these practice exams and some have more then one answer so if you leave out one answer, the entire question is marked wrong.

My friend took it about a month ago and said there weren't any multiple ones that he remembered, but did say it was mainly questions on printers and networking on the windows part of it.

Hello Fishboy,

I am taking this test Oct 1. Wish me well. If you haven't already been to dalidesign.com/prepap/apad.html (http://dalidesign.com/prepap/apad.html) I recommend that you check it out, download the demo, and buy the rest of the practice questions ($30).

I have also read the following:

"A+ Core and Windows/DOS exams" by "Syngress" - from which I could only glean a little useful information amidst a desert of usless filler material

"A+ Certification for Dummies" Ron Gilster (IDG books) - which has a fair amount of oversimplified information if you can stand to wade through a number of utterly stupid attempts at humor

Both books left me wanting

If you really want to torture yourself (this test really makes you think about the answers), spend $50 on the practice tests from Marcraft (890 questions), www.mic-inc.com/Aplus (http://www.mic-inc.com/Aplus) but be advised that there are a few incorrect answers on this test and sometimes more than one answer is possible but they only want the best one.

One incorrect example - one of the test questions insists that "system.dat" and "user.dat" are in the "C:\windows\system" directory, when IN FACT they are in the "C:\windows" directory.

I'm taking the test later this year. I have been told that some of the test questions do have multiple answers (ie - pick all that apply).

For preparation, I have read the 'A+ Certification Exam Guide' by Michael Meyers. It's pretty good but seems to contain alot of irrelevant info. I've also been using the 'A+ Certification Flash Cards for Dummies'. They are very good, but do contain a few errors. The best part of the Flash cards is that it comes with a CD of a guy reading the questions and answers! Took me about 2 weeks of listening to it in the car to memorize several hundred answers.

Next up for me is to be assimilated by the Borg...... err, that is.... I'm going to start my MCSE classes.

Hi
if you are after extras,
see if you can get hold of "PC Upgrade and Repair Bible Professional Edition"by Barry Press published by IDG Books, it has 2 CD Roms in cover of book on one CD you will find most past questions, trouble with the Sylvan test is they only tell you that you have Past or Failed. so you don't really know if they want both answers or just one,
Just a tip if you have a question you don't have the faintest idea of answer for don't leave it blank, tick any one of the answers you normally have 33% chance of being right, that odd point could be the differance between Pass and Fail!

I would recommend:

Scott Mueller's Repairing and Upgrading Computers. It will be useful as a reference at work.
Heathkit's software which includes test simulations and reviews for all the questions including Windows and Dos.
Peter Norton, ON WIndows 95.
Most of the A+ books failed to provide with enough information to fix real problems at the workshop. In most cases, too much text and no real problems.
The A+ Cramsessions will be a good help. Check these websites:
www.pcguide.com --By far, one of the best places to get useful info for your A+
www.mcse, mcp A+ cramsessions.com If you want to become and MCse, this is the place!
Since I took the test, Comptia has added two more sections including one on network.
I hope it helps you!

I have been using the cramsession books as well as borrowed CD's from other people. I have found that a lot of questions contradict each other and some are even wrong. It looks like a good certification to have so I will study hard and take it in Nov. Good luck to all

Well Fishboy,

In a couple of weeks or so I'll let you know just exactly what was included on my test.

But I sure do know what you mean about some questions contradicting each other and wrong answers on these practice test programs. One can only hope that real test is written better than these.

Another irritating thing is sometimes trying to interpret where a vague question is coming from, like it says; "To do XXX in Windows you would.....? A,B,C, or D - excuse me? was that Win95 or Win3x???

One of the questions I found asked, "To install dialup networking.......? A,B,C, or D?" It might be easy to confuse "install" with "to create a dialup connection," whereas both possible answers were in the options - in this case it ASSUMED that dialup networking had not even been installed on the system. I suppose that this is a forwarning to read every question very carefully.

Good luck CMonster. I would think this test would be cake for you. You make very knowledgeable posts. The parts that mess me up the most are the laser printer processes and the voltage type questions.

In that case, I would recommend the Hp website that includes a service manual to fix laser printers. That information is priceless! Good luck to both of you in your tests!
